Domain Movers: Arca.com, ClearCare.com & More

Here are a couple domain name movers that I noticed this morning while digging around a little bit and figured I would share them with you.

ARCA.com appears to have potentially changed ownership. The domain was owned by SAVVIS (CentryLink) and transferred out of MarkMonitor to Tucows under privacy protection. DNS did not change from Savvis.net after the transfer, so it’s hard to say for sure if it sold or not. The domain currently doesn’t resolve but is hosted on a dedicated server. Companies like Kimberly Clark and P&G do use Savvis for hosting, so there could have been a larger company behind the purchase if it did sell. NASCAR has an “ARCA” series, but at this time I wouldn’t think it was them who purchased it. ARCA.com was registered in 1992.

ClearCare.com was acquired by Novartis AG (Alcon). The pharmaceutical offers a contact cleaning solution with the name Clear Care, a product that I actually started using not that long ago and really like. It uses hydrogen peroxide to clean and disinfect and it really cleans contacts really well. This is a domain name upgrade for Novartis on the Clear Care product as the current domain used is ClearCareSolution.com . It appears that Frank Schilling / Name Admin Inc owned the domain prior. I only say “appears” because whois changed to “PrintCarts” with a email address of “[email protected]” prior to switching to Novartis. Frank’s Name Admin Inc owned the domain prior to it switching to “PrintCarts”. The potential that the sales price on ClearCare.com is 6 figures! The domain had a listing price of $180K on Afternic:

clearcare

but I have seen Frank sell for 50% off from his BIN price at times, so the sale may have been just shy of six figures.

Novartis did file a Complaint to the National Arbitration Forum on the ClearCare.com domain but LOST. It was revealed in this case that Frank won the domain for $310 at an auction in 2005. Negotiation prices are stated in the complaint, so that is interesting to read. Make note that it’s stated the domain was “for sale” for $5,000 (which was actually the minimum offer price). A quote of $48K was given, then $80K sometime later. Since this then involved lawyers, the price climbed to $180K and I don’t blame Frank for doing it! Again, I wasn’t able to find a final sales price on ClearCare.com .

TwitterSocial.com appears to have been grabbed on the drop (in 2012) by somebody (service or person) and then by CSC Corporation on behalf of Twitter more recently. The interesting thing to me is that I haven’t seen the email address “superusersolutions@gmail” in whois, but it appears to maybe be a drop catching service or a pretty active drop catching domain investor? TwitterSocial.com was listed for sale via GoDaddy, based on the for sale badge via DomainTools.com (Source 12).

  1. clearcare.com they tried to steal in UDRP, but Frank fought them, and won, and most likely taxed them for the douche bag move.

    1. Thanks Mike. I had that info, I just hit publish before I intended. I just added it in and updated the story, but thanks for also pointing it out.
