Welcome, this is Domain Movers! We focus on corporate domain name transactions and report these early findings to you. The following is a very small sample of domain movements over the past 24 hours that we detected.
Time Inc. has acquired BrainstormDesign.com from BuyDomains.com. The company now owns about 9,200 domain names.
OmegaOne.com has been acquired by Omega.one, which is a new cryptocurrency offering, reportedly backed by former Morgan Stanley CEO, John Mack. The new gTLD domain Omega.one was registered on April 15, 2016 and the traditional and more common OmegaOne.com domain appears to have been acquired around May 17, 2017. If you are going to brand with a new gTLD, It’s vital to own the matching .com domain. Not only for web traffic and securing your brand, but also email!
StudentAid.com which was allowed to expire by the U.S. Department Of Education and grabbed by DropCatch.com when the domain was released from the registry, sold for $20,151 after 84 bidders and 193 bids. Bidders YouUser and 420Domains fought it out from $10K, with Zynozeer joining the fight around $16K. 420Domains prevailed. You can read my original story about the StudentAid.com domain here.
LetsStartToday.com has been acquired by a currently unknown MarkMonitor client from HugeDomains.com. The domain was registered in 2014 and held an offering price of $1,895.
LunchPod.com has been acquired by domain buyer Marksmen on behalf of a currently unknown CSC client. The domain has been registered since 2007.
ShopTSC.com has been acquired out of GoDaddy’s NameFind portfolio by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The domain has been registered since 2004.
VirginHyperloop-One.com has been registered at CSC Corporate Domains, the same registrar used by Virgin. Whois is currently generic, but one would have to assume Virgin Enterprises Limited is behind this registration. Richard Branson hinted in mid June 2017 that something was in the works with Hyperloop One and the domain registration now in early August may confirm something has been agreed on.
VirginHyperloop.com which was registered April 28, 2017 on the drop and grabbed by DropCatch.com has moved into Afternic Escrow also. To note, VirginHyperloop.net .org and .us were all registered on March 29, 2017 at GoDaddy, with the .net and .org under whois privacy. Since .us domain names do not allow whois privacy, that domain name shows its owned by Hyperloop One using a gmail address of Bruce Upbin. Bruce is VP Strategic Communications for Hyperloop One. The main domain used by the company, Hyperloop-One.com is registered at GoDaddy, under privacy protection.
To note, there are two main Hyperloop companies. Hyperloop One (formally Hyperloop Technologies) via Hyperloop-One.com and HTT (Hyperloop Transportation Technologies) via Hyperloop.global. SpaceX owns Hyperloop.com as Elon Musk conceived the idea of the Hyperloop. Hyperloop One has about $141 million in funding currently. So did Virgin buy it or invest in it? My guess is that Virgin acquired Hyperloop One.
Virgin has registered a few domains this year that may relate. On May 17, 2017, Virgin-Hyperspeed.com, VirginHyperspeed.com, VirginHyperspeed.us and Hyperspeed.us were also registered.
Helmes AS has acquired its EMD .com via domain name aftermarket service Sedo, Helmes.com. The domain sold for $5,800
Trading Products Limited has acquired TradingProducts.com also at Sedo.
FPS Fritze Wicke Seelig Partnerschaft von Rechtsan has acquired IPProtection.com also at Sedo. The domain sold for $3,499
Webstate GmbH has acquired AcademicDating.com from HugeDomains.com via Sedo. I wasn’t able to find the exact sales price.
San Diego Community Ventures, Inc. has acquired MissionGrowth.org at domain name aftermarket service Afternic.com for an undisclosed amount.
Hartford Fire Insurance Co. has acquired HartfordDirect.com from BuyDomains.com. The domain held an offering price of $2,288 at the time of the sale.
Novartis AG registered Jemvy.com and Wolavo.com adding to the 13,000+ domain names they already own.
RSE Markets, Inc. has acquired RallyRoad.com from Frank Schillings Name Administration Inc. The company currently uses RallyRD.com. I was not able to find a sales price on this one.
Nocks Intellect B.V. has acquired Nocks.com at Sedo for $35,000. The company is using Nocks.co currently. The domain was owned by a Jason Nocks prior.
Kraft Foods Group Brands LLC registered HeinzSummer.com
Vox Media, Inc. has acquired FlyingCourier.com. The domain name held a buy now price of $5,000.
Your thoughts on the studentaid.com purchase from a domain investor perspective? Any drawbacks to this purchase considering its prior history?
@Casey,
I don’t think any drawbacks as it wasn’t a “main domain” used, not even mentioned with the court filing. I’d think it’s a good lead gen domain but I do not know the student aid market. There are hundreds of domains registered that contain StudentAid in some fashion, so it’s a good investment with many potential buyers. I was talking with somebody the morning the auction was ending and I thought it would sell for $20K, so I was pretty close.
