Company Domain Name Movers From eBay, Fox & More

I’ve been busting my ass with these articles and this is simply a new record for me! DotWeekly Discoveries started as a series with articles like this about “once a week” and here I am turning out two articles in less than 12 hours! The digging for this article and posting it here took about 5  hours, to give you an idea of the time spent just for this.

Well, anyway, here is the latest company domain name movers from large companies around the web. Some domains were hand registered, some purchased and some domains I include just because they are interesting and have some kind of recent activity on them. I found more, but with little info to post on them, the others that I found may hit a future article.

Here we go!

eBay Inc.

Hand registered 100+ domain names starting with SLCE001.com to SLCE008.com and then SLCQ001.com to SLCQ125.com . These will likely be used as name servers. eBay did open a very large data
center located in Salt Lake City Utah, so that is very likely the reason behind all the domains starting with SLC. I’m not sure how much MarkMonitor charges per domain registration, but even if it’s $10, that’s over $1,300 just in registration fees.

eBay also registered the domain name eBayStudio.com

Amazon Technologies, Inc.

Amazon registered several new domain names like OnlineAmazonPayment.com / .net . KindleUnlimited.org /.net and Kindle-unlimited.org (they already own KindleUnlimted.com which was
registered on June 10, 2014 and is set with UltraDNS.net NS, which is a little odd as they leave most NS with MarkMonitor. A little odd, as in, they likely will be using KindleUnlimited.com for something).

Amazon uses DYN.com services for it’s main site, Amazon.com but often redirects domains like FirePhone.com simply using its domain registrar MarkMonitor.

Guthy-Renker LLC

Hand registered the domain name WrinkleWar.com . Guthy-Renker is a Santa Monica, California based direct-response marketing company that sells products directly to consumers through
infomercials, television ads, direct mail, telemarketing and the internet. Guthy-Renker owns over 2,500 domain names.

WrinkleWar.com will likely be used in some kind of advertisement about clothing and wrinkle remover etc.

MarkMonitor Client

MarkMonitor registered the domain name BelongAnywhere.org on behalf of a client. The BelongAnywhere.com domain was registered on 4/21/2014 (for 3 years) and is under whois privacy at
PublicDomainRegistry.com with Name.com NS. The .com is likely not owned by the MarkMonitor client. BelongAnywhere.net was registered on 4/21/2014 as well (for 1 year), but at GoDaddy by a Weiping Zheng according towhois records.

I’m not sure why the spark in interest in this term and the reason behind the registrations at different registrars for the .com / .net and now the .org . It isn’t uncommon for people to register the .com
/ .net domains, but it would be a little bit odd for the same person to do it at different registrars on the same day. With whois privacy on the .com, it is hard to tell who currently owns it.

Update 7/17/14 : This was very likely Airbnb with something to do with its rebranding… I seen the following picture in a Recode.net article.

belonganywhere

Fox Inc.

Very likely purchased the domain name Jabo.com . Name Servers just updated to FoxInc.com and the domain actually redircts to a 404 error page on FoxSports.com. I’m sure the 404 is by mistake. With-in the URL, the term Just-A-Bit-Outside is included. A common term relating to “pitching” in baseball and I think a term used by broadcaster Bob Uecker in the movie Major League.

Digging a little further with that info and I found this article just released by Fox Sports which explains the “Just A Bit Outside” “page” being created and launched today 7/16/2014. No word about the Jabo.com domain in the article.

I was unable to find a publicly displayed purchase price, but this is a very nice CVCV domain, so I’m sure it didn’t come cheap! The domain was listed for sale according to a screenshot in
early 2013, so it likely was for sale recently as well.

Halewood International Brands Limited

Registered the domain name CrabbiesFruits.com . Crabbies is the brand name and “fruits” relates to the fruity alcoholic drinks they launched back in April 2014. They are UK based, but I
still wouldn’t wait that long to register the .com domain. PR dated back to April to announce the launch of Crabbies Fruits. http://www.crabbiesgingerbeer.co.uk/2014/04/new-crabbies-
fruits-launch/

Pistol.com

Did it sell? Not likely, but Pistol.com and RiflesForSale.com moved into HitFarm.com, which is Dr. Kevin Ham’s parking company. The domains were/are listed on Mark.com, and Kevin seems to move domains
there from time to time… so it may not have sold and Kevin is simply moving the domain around. According to a DomainTools.com screenshot, Pistol.com did redirect to a “Pistol Forum”
March 26, 2014  so there is a chance that somebody rented it or was testing traffic and may be the reason for the recent NS change. RiflesForSale.com which is listed for sale on Sedo and moved in at the same time as Pistol.com, has a sellers location as Barbados and I’m pretty sure Dr. Ham is in Vancouver Canada. Reinvent media is now named Venture Media Inc. (VentureMedia.com)

HarperCollins Publishers L.L.C.

Registered the domain name BeforeAmen.com in late 2013 and has set up a one page lander for the book by Max Lucado “Before Amen” set to release in the fall of 2014. News Release on Max’s
site. http://maxlucado.com/news/before-amen-to-release-in-fall-of-2014/

    1. I didn’t even think of “skin” John, but that makes sense with them and all the skin care products they promote online and in TV ads etc.
