Company Domain Movers From Target, Mozilla & More

Welcome to another round of company domain movers in a series I call DotWeekly Discoveries. The following are domain names that have been registered, purchased and simply moving for some reason by large companies. These are often very early discoveries and lead to new products, services and more by many of the companies mentioned.

I do not do these as often as I had in the past but I may still post them from time to time like today. I really enjoy doing these but the time, effort, knowledge etc in obtaining and “making it work” just has not been adding up, so DotWeekly is not as active as I’d like to be and this simply comes down to money! I’d enjoy doing DotWeekly full time, but simply can’t make it work that way, so if you had been wondering, hopefully that answers the question for you. So anyway, here is the list:

Kellogg Company

Registered the domain name TreatsForToys.com . Likely for something to do with Halloween coming up.

Connected Ventures, LLC

Appears to have shut down Jest.com . Today’s Best Thing became Jest.com, so it’s hard to say why CV shut Jest down but the domain now forwards to CollegeHumor.com

eBay Inc.

Has purchased the domain name YourAvenue.com from Marchex. The transaction likely took place on or about July 31, 2014 with the help of MarkMonitor. Marchex does not sell “cheap” and often produces five figure sales when they do sell… just to give you an general idea what the domain may have sold for.

Microsoft

Has purchased the domain name SurfaceBoard.com . They have also registered the domain SurfaceBoard.net . Likely something to do with its Surface tablet.

They also have been registering A LOT of domains relating to domains to use as servers… like MTC-BOS.com (Microsoft Technology Center) and 100 domains like 000dapp.com to 099dapp.com . These are likely server names to be used in some way.

On 2/11/2014 Microsoft also registered the domain names OfficeDelve.com and .net . Microsoft filed for a trademark on the term Delve on April 29, 2014 for computer application software. There is a very good chance that they have purchased the Delve.com domain name, even though whois records currently do not show it.

Simon Property Group, L.P.

Has is consolidated thousands of domain names by transferring them to CSC Corporate Domains. Most were registered with domain registrar CoreHub (BestRegistrar.com).

Apple Inc.

Went BIG on announcement day and registered an astounding amount of domains related to terms used…. They registered ApplePay.info and AppleWatch.org! Kidding aside, they did register a couple other domains, including ApplePay.at, AppleWatch.at and AppleWatch.lt as well. Also iPhonePlus.at All In 1, Inc owns ApplePay.com and has for a pretty long time (about 2002). They use the domain name for an “AppleOne Payroll” service. NormalKid LLC owns AppleWatch.com. That domain has been registered since 2004.

ApplePay.biz, ApplePay.us, ApplePays.com, AppleWatch.biz, AppleWatchEdition.com, AppleWatchSport.com, iPhone6Plus.biz, iPhone6Plus.us, iPhonePlus.us, wwwApplePay.com and wwwAppleWatch.com

With the last two domain registrations, it would appear that Apple will make a play to get both ApplePay.com and AppleWatch.com domains.

Unknown

A currently unknown MarkMonitor client has registered the domain names StinkyAndDirty.com and StinkyAndDirtyShow.com .

Capital One Services, Inc.

Registered the domain name YesMiles.com, likely for a rewards card of some kind?

The Active Network, Inc. (Active.com)

Appears to have sold the domain name WebMeetings.com . The domain has transferred registrars and shows a “Ryan Williams” of Paris France as the new owner. Name servers have yet to update.

Readers Digest

Allowed the domain name WalkItOff.com to expire (which was a website) and the domain was grabbed by NameThread.com on the drop, which appears to be a eNom registrar and is likely on
auction at NameJet.com .

Bank of Nova Scotia

Registered the domain name FeelingOfFree.com

Qualcomm Incorporated?

WorldChangingStuff.com, a domain I wrote about on August 4, 2014 (and its interesting activity) has changed name servers again off of DomainSponsors DNS and to CSC Corporate Domains DNS. So they  may be getting ready to use the domain soon. They have also registered basically all of the major TLD’s.

Visa International Service Association

Registered 3 interesting domain names, which included: VisaToken.com, VisaTokens.com and VisaTokenService.com

Nordstrom

Which has owned the domain name NordstromVisa.com for some time and had it “parked” with DomainSponsor, has changed domain name servers and will likely start using the domain. Is this likely related to Apple Pay? Could be, as Apple did mention a partnership with Nordstrom.

In general, with Apple Pay, I’d expect several domain registrations and domain purchases relating to the mobile payment to get pretty active. I have seen some activity already, but I’m not ready yet to share what I have found.

BigCommerce Holdings, Inc.

Registered the domain name BetterBackend.com

Target Brands, Inc.

Registered the domain names TargetScoop.com .net .info and .biz

Autotrader.com

Has registered the domain name StartMyAwesome.com

Humana?

Has purchased the domain name VitalityCard.com . The domain was listed for $10,343 via Sedo but the exact sales price is unknown. Humana and Walmart teamed up to offer “Vitality HealthFood” a wellness and rewards program. Based on what I can see, this kicked offer around September 2012. Talk of the “Vitality Card” had been used since then. The domain VitalityCard.com was registered on 1/22/2013 when the domain expired and was grabbed likely on the drop by NameSilo and owned by John Resnick.

Twitter

Playing games? Twitter registered the domain name FabricSDK.com and TwitterFabric.com back in July as I had reported. Now DNS has been changed to SedoParking.com (to hide?). Twitters name was and has not been displayed in whois (which isn’t uncommon) but they where behind the registrations. SDK often refers to Software Developers Kit.

Nix.com

I had wrote about this domain that was likely purchased on July 30, 2014  and it appears whoever the buyer was, is likely working on something bigger… as more Nix domain names have been selling. Nix.us has likely been acquired by the same buyer. Nix.biz hasn’t changed whois data, but appears to have recent activity on it, which tells me it may have sold. So it appears those 3 domains have likely been secured. (not an easy task).

Nix.net appears to have changed ownership on or about 1/3/2014 when a Eddie Bacha was displayed in whois and the domain switched to SedoParking name servers. Eddie may have owned the domain before and could be the “seller”. The domain switched back to privacy around the time the .com sold. (July 11, 2014 to be exact)

Nix.org is for sale via Sedo but doesn’t appear to have any recent activity.

To acquire Nix.com, Nix.net, Nix.us and Nix.biz is no easy feat in itself and some $$$$ would have been spent in the process! I have yet to be able to dig up who the potential buyer is but there are several potential buyers based on products like Insight Pharmaceuticals, owners of the NIX Lice treatment. Nix Health and I’m sure hundreds more. A “new” service, company or product would also be a potential.

Unknown

A currently unknown MarkMonitor client has purchased the domain name Flooke.com for an undisclosed amount.

Coors Brewing Company

Registered the domain name ClimbTheOtherSide.com for a likely marketing campaign of some kind.

Unknown

A currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client has purchased the domain names SeeIt.com and SeeIt.net from the past owner.

APN, LLC (Ask.com)

Has purchased the domain name SearchThis.com likely via Sedo.

Mozilla Corporation

Registered the domain names TheOpenStandard.net and TheOpenStandard.org . They currently appear not to own TheOpenStandard.com

  1. According seeit.co whois ,seeit.com own by Comcast Corporation。MarkMonitor client has purchased the domain names,No,it is CSC CORPORATE DOMAINS, INC.

    1. I adjusted the MarkMonitor / CSC mistake. SeeIt.co is not owned by Comcast from what I can tell. Comcast offers email addresses to its customers, and Kristopher Cone according to whois owns the .co
