Amazon Technologies, Inc. has acquired PointAfter.com at domain name aftermarket service Afternic.com for an undisclosed amount from its past owners. Amazon now owns over 49,000 domain names. Interestingly, the domain name was acquired January 27, 2015 but held Afternic DnEscrow whois data ever since.
GoDaddy helped a currently unknown client acquire SimplyLive.com via Afternic, likely for its Domain Name Buy Service. The domain was registered at GoDaddy prior to the sale.
Asurion, LLC has acquired SkipTheWait.com from its past owners. The domain name held a buy now of $5,000 USD.
Synatix GmbH has acquired Ghosty.com at domain name aftermarket service Sedo.com for $8,000 USD.
Meat & Livestock Australia Limited has acquired TrueAussie.com from its past owners. The domain has been registered since November 2008.
UnitedHealth Group Incorporated has acquired OptumTechnology.com from its past owners.
Molson Canada 2005 (Molson Coors) has acquired McDirect.com from its past owners. The domain has been registered since February 1996.
Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. acquired Klinc.com from its past owners. The domain has been registered since April 1998 and joins the other 3,400+ domain names owned by Zurich.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has taken ownership of CoSquared.com according to whois records. I had announced on February 27, 2018 that Walmart was launching two new online brands, Allswell and CoSquared. I expected Walmart may have acquired CoSquared.com at that time as the domain had recently moved to whois privacy. Now it confirms they did.
Comicbook.com has transferred ownership to CBS Interactive Inc. and this is in relation to the story that DotWeekly broke about CBS acquiring Pop Culture Media on April 7, 2018. The domain was pending transfer at the time of my article but PopCulture.com had already transferred, along with some other domains.
BKNG.com appears to have been acquired by a currently unknown MarkMonitor client. The domain name has transferred into MarkMonitor from eNom. The domain was under whois privacy but appears to have been owned by an individual prior to whois privacy. BKNG is the stock ticker symbol of Booking Holdings Inc., who owns Booking.com, Priceline.com and more. I would expect that they were the buyers of the domain as they are MarkMonitor clients and also use BKNGS.com for name servers.
Jefferies LLC registered 3 new domain names. Jefferies.us, Jefferies.vip were registered May 2, 2018 and JefferiesOffer.com was registered May 3, 2018.
Paypal Inc. has taken ownership of LoanBuilder.com, a domain name that has been registered since June 1, 2002. The domain name was under whois privacy prior, but DomainTools.com whois history shows the domain name was owned by Swift Financial, which Paypal acquired in August 2017.
Unilever registered SummerIsInTheHair.com, while Frito-Lay North America, Inc. registered BringHomeTheFlavor.com
MoneyLover.com has been sold by GoDaddy, out of its NameFind portfolio. The domain name held a buy now of $4,299. The buyers appear to be Finsify.com as MoneyLover.com is a duplicate site.
Amazon has launched a new private label brand of pet food and pet toys under the brand name Wag. Wag.com is a Quidsi, Inc. owned domain name (Diapers.com, Soap.com), which is owned by Amazon. Wag.com now redirects to Amazon.com and a specific page for the Wag brand. I think this is a great example of creating a brand, based on a premium domain name asset already owned by the company. Owning Wag.com certainly helps secure the brand and is a great starting point. To note, Wag.com has been an online pet store for many years and started redirecting to Amazon by at least December 2017.
