Sorry Rhonda Starr, Not Playing Your Game

People often do some shady things in the domain industry or simply related to the industry, so I find it funny when they try it with me!

Today, I got an email from “Rhonda Starr” using the email address [email protected] which included:

Hello,

Any interest in the mybudgethome(com) domain name?

Sincerely,
Rhonda

No shit I’m going to reply! This is going to be fun!!!!!! So I replied with:

Wow, that is really a great domain name! I’d love to buy it but I’m currently attending college and am not sure if I could afford this amazing domain name.

What would you sell the domain name to a poor college kid for? I think I could get rich with this domain and become a starr!

Sadly, the game has stopped at this point… but I will update if they decide to reply to me in some way. Maybe they Googled me 🙂

Update: Game back on and they replied:

Hello, Mark here.

Thank you for you email.

Our price for complete ownership transfer for mybudgethome . com domain is set to US $160.

Domain can be renewed through current (or changed) registrar by usual price (US $12.99 in general)
Note that we include one year of renewal fee in our price which is valid even if you decide to change the sponsoring registrar.

If that is acceptable, please let me know so I can arrange the ownership transfer.

Thank you,
Mark Sittler

Well, as you can see, Rhonda  had a sex change and is now “Mark”. Mark also has a new email address: [email protected] .  Bingo! I know who you are now…

My email reply:

Hi Mark,
What happened to Rhonda? She reminds me of that GoDaddy Girl Dannica Patrick. RACY!
Anyway, sorry to get off track. I just checked my bank account and it’s looking pretty slim. A big $12 bucks remain and sadly with each passing day, it seems $1 is removed by the bank. Tomorrow I will likely have only $11, then $10. It’s not looking good.
Do you know Dario Birtic by chance? I talked to this guy once at this GreatRoast, well not actually at the roast butt on ThePott of all places. It was like a TwistedMeatball really!
Sorry for getting off track. Since I only have $12, would you accept something in that range?
Well, I sent a cryptic message right? The guys name is Dario Birtic according to whois and GreatRoast.com, ThePott.com and TwistedMeatball.com are 3 of his domain names that he actually owns! 🙂
The next reply should be good, if one comes in. Will update if it does.

The domain name MyBudgetHome.com is currently an Expired Domain on auction at GoDaddy.com and the auction ends in about 24 hours from when the first email came in.

mybudgethome

The email address used to contact me, does NOT match the email address on file for the expired domain and the domain owner of MyBudgetHome.com prior to it expiring. If the email matched the past owners, I wouldn’t find this as a “big deal” because it simply may be the past owners last ditch effort to sell it. Since the email address and or “name” do not match up, to me, this is simply a dirty tactic being used.

It is not uncommon for people to use tactics of “selling a domain name they do not own” in forms of trying to sell domain names that are not even registered.

Email addresses used by these people change fast and often.

In showing interest, and coming to an agreement on the domain… they would likely place a bid on the expired domain, and depending how the transaction happened, would transfer ownership at that point…. they could clearly try some other scam in the process as well.

Tips:

It is always best to do a search using Google with the email address you are contacted with. This will often reveal articles like this. You can also try the “name”, domain etc to see what you may find. Doing a whois search on the domain in questions is also a good idea.

Legit people do send out emails like this, but it never hurts to double check if you are getting these emails. Especially if you are really interested in purchasing the domain name. Always use an Escrow service to complete a domain sale and do some research. Most professional services will not be contacting you using a “gmail” or “hotmail” type email address.

  1. I have been getting quite a few emails in recent months for domain names that are either pending delete or not even registered. In most cases the domains are not worth pursuing but occasionally I have used such alerts to backorder or register a decent domain.

  2. I got an email from Larae Trailor email adresse [email protected] last week. Trying to sell me buddiner.com
I looked its not reg’d. I personally wouldn’t pay a dollar for it. I thought, lets play, I am sick of this endless bullshit email. Seo services, invoices with my name because i didnt hide my privacy. So anyways I emailed Larae (Dario) and received a reply of her/his price of 175usd huh, I responded with $150usd. That sounds fair he she says. So within the hour it was registered to Dario and his 5000 other domain names, do the whois at domaintools.com. That made me feel good, this dipshit is the proud owner of another piece of trash, thinking he is gonna cash a $150 ticket on Friday, today. He seems to have his own dns and is probably a reseller or he would get banned. But made me feel good knowing this turd forked out money for nothing but thinks he did well. I have to email him now and tell him I transfered money from my bank to paypal but will take 6-8 business days. I keep visiting the link to his godaddy auction listing she/he sent me just after they purchased it. Eventually I will break his heart and say i clicked the link he sent me and I saw a bunch of other cool names and bought 2 of them for 90$. Sorry Dario. So beware of larae Trailor emails and the email adresse [email protected].
Thanks for the post, I found it during my search of the whois email adresse. So if anyone want BudDiner.com Dario was nice enough to hand reg/ drop catch he would say, but his services cost 150$

A little detective work goes a long way in this business. Good job getting this info out there Jamie
And thank you for the info on his other domain names, I am gonna send some offers from one of my disposable email adresses, like the one that received the email in the first place.
