Ford Acquires GoRide.com + More Company Domain Movers

GoRide.com

Domain Movers is a series where we keep track of company related domain name transactions. These early finds often relate to new brands, products, services, advertising and domain name upgrades.

Here are the latest domain movers detected:

Origami.org has been acquired by Marksmen for a currently unknown client. The domain has been registered since June 2001.

The Howard Hughes Corporation has acquired DiscoverHow.com out of GoDaddy’s NameFind portfolio. Great name and worth whatever they paid for it!!

NFL registered a bunch of domain names in relation to Team+Fan+Travel. Some of those include: PackersFanTravel.com, RamsFanTravel.com and JaguarsFanTravel.com

Ford Motor Company acquired GoRide.com for a newly announced on-demand non emergency medical transportation offering. They acquired the domain name from its past owners between April/Nov 2017 (likely about November 12, 2017). TechCrunch covered the story of GoRide. The service is only currently available in Metro Detroit but will be expanding in Michigan and I’m sure other areas.

Moms.com has potentially sold at Sedo. The domain sold for $252,000 in 2013 on Sedo and moved into whois privacy at that time. There was a website on the domain until at least Feb 2018 and now a Coming Soon page is displayed on the domain. I’d say the domain sold again.

Eightfold Inc. has acquired Eightfold.com from Telepathy Inc. for an undisclosed amount. The company is currently using Eightfold.ai

Anheuser-Busch, LLC has acquired DrinkWiser.com from its past owners. The domain has been registered since June 2006. The company used The Treadstone Group, Inc. to help acquire the domain from its past owners around February 1, 2018.

FinTech Labs/Fincubator VC has acquired single letter F.org out of GoDaddy’s NameFind portfolio. I do recall that the single letter .org domains held offering prices into six figures that I had seen when I wrote about GoDaddy selling G.org.

LumiLabs.com has been acquired by Marissa Mayer, the former CEO of Yahoo for a new tech incubator called Lumi Labs which she is co-founder with Enrique Munoz Torres. The domain name was owned by HugeDomains.com prior and held a buy now of only $1,895. It appears the purchase took place about March 29, 2018 according to whois records and by March 31, 2018 the domain transferred to Google’s registrar under whois privacy.

Alpha Communications Network has sold  ACN.com, with the domain name moving into escrow at Afternic for an undisclosed amount. The domain has been registered since 1994.

Embedded Flight Systems, Inc. has acquired its acronym, EFSI.com at domain name aftermarket Sedo.com. The company currently uses FlightSystems.com as its main domain name. The domain was acquired in April 2017 for $3,499 and whois just updated now. Pretty good deal.

Evrenzo.com has been acquired by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client, also at Sedo.

SolPad Inc. has acquired FlexGrid.com from Name Administration Inc. for an undisclosed amount. The companies product offering is pretty cool, a portable solar power device (and more). One feature with the SolPad Mobile is the ability to connect several of the devices together, which they call FlexGrid. Essentially, it’s a solar powered battery pack, but you can connect it to your home’s regular outlet to deliver power to other devices that plug into a special power outlet device. The mobile version has USB ports etc. The company was formed in 2012, announced its product in 2016 but has yet to offer it for sale as far as I can tell. I wasn’t able to see any pricing or availability to purchase currently. I was able to find an article which mentioned a pre-order price of $1,395 that took place in early 2017. That’s a killer ($1,395 for 1) and it takes 10 hours to solar charge the device (5 hours on grid), also a bigger killer IMO. Also to note, the company was called SunCulture Solar but rebranded as SolPad.

Amazon Technologies, Inc. has acquired AppSync.com from its past owners for an undisclosed amount. Amazon used The Treadstone Group to assist with acquiring the domain name, which appears to have taken place about February 1, 2018 according to whois records.

PicMonkey, LLC has registered PicMonkeyVideo.com. This is in addition to VidMonkey.com that I reported on January 29, 2018, which they acquired from GoDaddy.

Biqos.com has been acquired by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The domain name was listed for sale via BrandBucket but I wasn’t able to find a sales price.

Unilever Plc has acquired Heala.com from its past owners. The domain name was using Uniregistry Market at the time of the sale.

Petco Animal Supplies Stores, Inc. has listed the domain name PVVC.com for sale (affiliate link) on Sedo with a buy now of $3,500. The domain name has been registered since August 13, 1998. Petco only owns about 130 domain names, with most including the Petco brand name. Unleashed.com is the best generic domain name owned by the company, which they used for Unleashed by Petco in 2016 but the website no longer resolves. Petco.com/unleashed still shows what Unleashed.com did. Unleashed by Petco was basically a smaller store, without pets.

Abogado.com (Attorney in Spanish) has been acquired by Thomson Reuters Global Resources Unlimited Company for an undisclosed amount. The domain has been registered since October 6, 1995. The transaction appears to have taken place around April 2017. The domain was registered at Name.com prior, under whois privacy and appears to have been owned by Telepathy, Inc. as late as 2015

  1. Another great Dot Weekly report, it’s always interesting to learn about the moves some of the world’s most innovative and fast moving corporations are making to gain insight.

I learned more than expected in this issue. I was the seller of Heala (with thanks to Uniregistry Brokers) but until right now didn’t know the buyer was Unilever 🙂

This actually gave me an idea for my portfolio site, I could add a line like “customers include Unilever”.

Uniregistry Market could create a stellar page featuring their customers. In a recent survey I suggested to them that they create a separate site for the Market, rather than a redirect.
