Welcome! This is Domain Movers. This series scours domain name data to find domain names that are specifically purchased by companies around the world. A lot of domain names are acquired every day for many reasons but I like to focus on the ones purchased by corporations.
These articles put a pulse on the fact that companies are acquiring domain name assets daily and investing real money into the domain names used for branding, advertising efforts, rebranding, communication and much more.
Here is a very small sampling of some domain movers I spotted recently:
Marksmen acquired BrazeTech.com via domain name aftermarket Afternic for a currently unknown client. The domain was owned by HugeDomains prior.
Circle SRL has acquired ConnectHub.com from Name Administration Inc. The company currently uses a new gTLD for it’s main domain, Circle.digital. ConnectHub.com held a buy now price of $37,700 but the exact sales price is unknown.
FastFour.com was also sold by Name Administration Inc. but the buyers are currently unknown. This one held a buy now of $22,100.
HP appears to have listed Gram.com for sale. They picked up the domain name when they acquired Palm, Inc for $1.2 billion in 2010. DigitalDNA appears to be brokering the domain name for them. No price is listed but I’d expect it to be a minimum of six figures.
Marriott International, Inc. has taken ownership of the premium 2 letter domain name LC.com. The domain name was owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts prior. Marriott acquired Starwood for $13 billion in late 2016. The domain name redirects to StarwoodHotels.com and The Luxury Collection.
The Washington Post appears to have acquired TheLily.com. The company announced The Lily in June 2017. The domain has long been under whois privacy at GoDaddy and has been registered since 2000, so this was very likely a recent domain purchase for them. The domain is currently unlocked and appears to be getting ready to transfer to like CSC Corporate Domains registrar. They should spend the $2,595 and acquire TheLilly.com also! (owned and for sale by HugeDomains) If they have $688 laying round, it wouldn’t hurt to purchase TheLillie.com just to be safe. (owned and for sale by BuyDomains)
Magazines.com, LLC appears to have acquired premium 3 letter domain name NHC.com from its past owners. The domain was listed for sale and has been registered since 1994.
BreweryPlus.com has been acquired by Argo Group, which is an insurance provider.
Eli Lilly and Company registered LillyPassport.com adding to the over 8,000 domain names the company already owns.
Anheuser-Busch, LLC has acquired TheRitas.com from HugeDomains.com. The domain has been registered since 2014 and held a buy now price of $2,295. This is likely in some connection with the Lime-A-Rita brand, which is currently in a brand makeover that started in March 2017. Full disclosure, my grandma’s name is Rita!
Target Brands Inc. has appeared in whois records for YourFoodFuture.com. The domain was registered September 30, 2016 at eNom under privacy, then transferred to Network Solutions under privacy and has now transferred to CSC revealing Target. Target may have acquired the domain from a past owner or they may have been behind the privacy… hard to tell.
Group M Worldwide, LLC has acquired WMGroup.com from its past owners. The domain was using Sedo name servers prior to selling, so it appears the domain was for sale. I was unable to find a sales price.
Guthy-Renker LLC registered BeautyInEveryAge.com adding to the 2,000+ other domains they already own.
TheLastLaugh.com has been acquired out of GoDaddy’s NameFind portfolio by a currently unknown MarkMonitor client.
PSL.com appears to have been sold by IBM. IBM took ownership of the domain name when they acquired Kenexa. Kenexa had acquired a company called PSL and that is how they had owned the domain name.
The suspected buyers (whois is generic/privacy) appear to be Pioneer Square Labs, which is a platform for creating companies that was founded in 2015. The company currently uses PioneerSquareLabs.com, so the premium 3 letter domain PSL.com would be a great upgrade for them, which currently is redirecting to the long version of the companies domain. To confirm the purchase outside of the whois privacy, the company is using the domain name on its Twitter page @psl.
Yay for Rita!
