Microsoft Acquires Dot.net Domain Name From Ha Auction

The domain name Dot.net (kind of a tongue twister IMO as it “sounds like” Dot, Dot, Net) was for sale in the April 20, 2016 Heritage Auctions domain name auction and sold for $8,625. Just revealed today, the buyers were Microsoft according to whois records.

Microsoft offers the .Net framework, a programming model and this was the likely reason behind the purchase. Currently Microsoft uses Microsoft.com/net to promote the program but there is now potential that they will use the new domain purchase in marketing or some fashion to relate to the .net framework.
