Domain Movers: TPV.com, Movie.com, SLCY.com & More

Here is the third installment of Domain Movers for today that I had a back log of data I wanted to share. All corporate domain movers.

TPV.com, which was owned by Sunset Publishing Corporation (Time Inc.) had the domain name switch to generic whois data at MarkMonitor, going under the name Matt Serlin / DnStination Inc. The domain name then transferred to GoDaddy.com on October 13, 2015 under privacy protection.

Time Inc. then acquired the domain name FortuneTV.com from BuyDomains.com. The domain name had a $2,588 buy now listing price and has been registered since September 2, 1998.

ABC Inc. / Disney registered the domain names SpotArlo.com and FindArlo.com. They also registered the domain name DestructionIsComing.com.

Southwest Airlines has launched a new “Transfarency” advertising campaign with the domain name Transfarency.com. I had reported back in July 2015 that Southwest registered several Transfarency related domain names but at that time did not own Transfarency.com, which was listed for sale for $950 on Sedo. Clearly “they” have purchased it now, although whois records are not showing Southwest Airlines as the owners, but shows Jerry Rios of GSD&M Idea City, which is an advertising agency.

One thing that still blows my mind, the video ad that fully focuses on “Transfarency”, and Southwest has built a stand alone webesite on Transfarency.com… yet displays Southwest.com at the end of the Transfarency ad spot? The call to action IMO should be Transfarency.com.. because that is the message they are talking about. Why spend the $$ on the domain name, website etc. if your not really going to send any visitors to it…

Idea City acquired Transfarency.com (likely on behalf of Southwest) via Sedo about August 21, 2015, which was about 1 month after they registered the EMD .net and the other domains mentioned in my article linked above.

Hips.com has been sold at Sedo.com for $25,000. That seems to be a pretty fair price for the domain IMO, considering how hot the 4L market is currently. It’s a nice brandable! The domain was listed in Sedo’s “Great Domains” auction event. The buyers are currently unknown but the domain name was owned prior by a Robert Miller with a Sympatico.ca email address.

Facebook Inc. has acquired the domain names TechPrep.net and TechPrep.org. TechPrep.net had a buy now price of $1,388 and was owned by BuyDomains.com. I was not able to find a price on the .org but it was acquired about September 28, 2015.

Both TechPrep domain names redirect to https://techprep.fb.com which states: “TechPrep is a Facebook-led initiative, supported by McKinsey & Company and created for parents, guardians and learners who want to understand more about computer science (CS) and programming. It’s a collection of fun and interesting information, resources and videos tailored to a variety of ages and experience levels.”

To note, I had owned TechPrep.com for several years but sold that domain name June 19, 2012 for $2,600 at Afternic to Chris Duggan of DreamCareersInc.com who still owns it today.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has acquired the domain name ItsWhoWeAre.com. The domain name was “Repossessed By Go Daddy” which basically means that the past owner did a charge back on the domain renewal fee and GoDaddy then auctions the domain name off to recover fees. In general, this domain start at around $20+ but some go as high as around $100 for the opening bid. I did report this domain name on September 9, 2015 but did not know the buyer at that time.

Twitter, Inc. registered several new domain names with them all relating to “Periscope”. Those included: PeriscopeOnAir.com, PeriscopeWidget.com, PeriscopeWidgets.com, ScopeOnAir.com, ScopeWidget.com and ScopeWidgets.com

Kimberly Clark Corporation appears to be working on a wireless internet diaper? They registered the domain name HuggiesWifi.com

AOL Inc. registered two new domain names that hint towards a browser for the company: AOLShield.com and AOLShieldBrowser.com.

SHIO.com has been acquired by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The domain name has been registered since June 11, 1996 and was last owned by a Maksim Nikitin of Estonia and registered at GoDaddy. The domain has since transferred to CSC.

Werte.com has been acquired by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The domain was last owned by Tang Yupen of NamePenny, LLC and has been registered since December 6, 2013.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. is likely to launch a TMZ branded slot machine based on the newly registered domain names TMZSlotMachine.com and TMZSlots.com. Warner Bros. owns the popular gossip website.

SoulCycle Inc. has likely acquired its future stock symbol? They have acquired the domain name SLCY.com. The domain name was owned by somebody in China. To note, SoulCycle does NOT own the EMD .com and uses the hyphen version Soul-Cycle.com. A BMX shop owns SoulCycle.com. There is talk that the company will go public in 2016.

Kellogg Company simply allowed WFDS.com to expire and it was grabbed on the drop and auctioned off.

NBCUniversal Media, LLC is now shown in whois records as the owners of Movie.com. The domain name has been loaded on a dedicated server. The domain held generic CSC Corporate Domains information in whois prior to November 13, 2015.

According to Archive.org, Movie.com redirected to Movies.com in 2014. No records are shown for 2015 to this point.

Movie.com currently does not resolve.

Movies.com is listed in whois records under the generic CSC Corporate Domains information and shows a Fandango copyright on the website. Comcast acquired Fandango in 2007 and Comcast owns NBCUniversal.

The domain doesn’t appear to have changed ownership, but there is potential that Movie.com may become more than just a redirect to Movies.com. Smart move IMO!

To note: several domain names like MovieClips.com and more have moved from CSC Corporate Domains generic whois data to NBCUniversal in.

CBS Studios Inc. registered several “Star Trek Mission” domain names which include:

startrekmission.com
startrekmissionc2e2.com
startrekmissionchicago.com
startrekmissionemeraldcity.com
startrekmissionnewyork.com
startrekmissionny.com
startrekmissionnyc.com
startrekmissions.com
startrekmissionseattle.com

  1. I just flew Southwest last week, and their promotional materials all showed the Transfarency name, even my drink napkin!

I wondered if they had acquired it.

    Nice domain!

I love your research and hope you can continue it.

    🙂

  2. Ditto, Jamie.

I know this takes plenty of your time, and you deserve recognition and reward for it.

When you were running the series on TheDomains I thought “good for you…you’ve paid your dues and made your way into the ‘inner circle’ of domainers where you can make the big bucks.

    Thanks for all you do.
