Domain Movers: Glenwood.com & More Domains

Welcome to domain movers, a series DotWeekly does on domain names that have been purchased by large companies, moving for one reason or another and often are not reported otherwise. During my digging, I also run into interesting things that do surprise me, so I think I will start sharing some of these in case they would surprise you. I’m going to call them….. It’s A Domain Fact! So, I will try to include a fact with each of my posts from now on that relates to domain names and see if I can surprise you.

It’s A Domain Fact! Moore.com has been continuously registered longer than the domain name More.com . Moore.com was registered March 16, 1990 with More.com being registered July 14, 1994.

BackOfHouse.com has been purchased by Morgans Group LLC from a Marty Cox according to whois records. The transaction appears to have taken place on May 5, 2014 when whois switched to CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. . The domain name had a for sale lander with an email address contact.

Morgans put up a site on the domain pretty quickly and the about page states: At Morgans Hotel Group, our purpose is to provide a global platform for creators, whether they be artists, chefs, writers, entrepreneurs, musicians, or daydreamers, to expose their talents and ideas to the world. At our hotels we do this by providing an environment that serves as both a sanctuary and inspiration for the creative journey. With Back of House, we provide that same experience & platform digitally, encouraging conversation and collaboration.

BrevAir.com has been purchased by Bayer AG. The domain was registered on 5/15/2013 by a George Halvard according to whois.

Vacations.com a domain name that was owned by Travelocity.com LP has changed registrant email address to Expedia.com . Expedia purchased Travelocity for $280 Million in cash! (most of it for the domain Vacations.com! kidding)

It appears that Sam’s Furniture in Haltom Texas has been acquired by Ashley Furniture, because the domain name SamsFurniture.com has transferred ownership to Ashley Furniture and retained the website the Weisblatt family had on the domain.

On a personal note, I wouldn’t suggest purchasing any Ashley Furniture products! We tried buying a leather couch, loveseat and chair from them and everytime they tried to deliver the products, it was ripped. Not one peice, ALL of them on two deliveries… We finally asked for our money back after very poor customer service (not calling us back) and the frustration of poor quality.

Monee.com has transferred ownership from Exchange Enterprises, Inc of TX to Wirecard Technologies AG in Denmark. This was likely more than just a domain name purchase but I couldn’t find much other info connecting the two companies during a quick search.

StarWarsTheMovie.com which was registered on 9/30/2014 and was parked with Sedo, has been acquired in some fashion (legal or financially) by Disney Enterprises, Inc. The domain name was registered a long time ago (at least from 2001 or earlier). The domain expired and was removed from the registry in 2005 & 2013.

IAmAReason.com has been registered by The Coca-Cola Company

Google Inc. has continued its registration of domain names for its Nest product lines and registered at least 28 more .com domain names with:

GameOfSilence.net has been registered by Sony Pictures. GameOfSilence.com was registered on September 14, 2014 by a Hasan Firtina of Turkey at GoDaddy.com

Glenwood.com which is/was owned by Man Investments Ltd. (Man.com) has left MarkMonitor and has been transferred to GoDaddy.com under privacy protection. Other Man domains have remained at MarkMonitor so there is potential that the domain may have been sold. Visiting glenwood.com results in the domain name resolving, but adding www. allows the domain to redirect to Man.com currently.
