Domain Movers: ConnectedAuto.com, SelfDriving.com + More

Welcome to Domain Movers where DotWeekly keeps track of corporate domain name transactions and reports the early findings to you. These transactions often reflect early indications of new brands, products, services, advertising efforts and more by companies around the world. Domain names are often a large piece of the puzzle needed.

Here is a small sample of the latest domain movements:

Telogis (Verizon Company) has acquired ConnectedAuto.com from BuyDomains for an undisclosed amount. The domain had expired in 2015 and BuyDomains acquired it at that time during the drop.

Orange Blossom Holdings has acquired SelfDriving.com and Self-Driving.com from its past owners. There has been some chatter over on NamePros.com about the industry related domains being acquired.

Apple Inc. registered 11 new domain names to go along with the rebrand of iTunes Podcasts to Apple Podcasts. Those domains included: ApplePodcast.net/.org/us/tv, ApplePodcaster.com, ApplePodcasts.ort/.u, ApplePodcastsSupport.com, ApplePodcastSupport.com, iTunesPodcast.com and wwwApplePodcasts.com. Apple currently does not own ApplePodcasts.com. That domain was registered on August 28, 2015 by a James Boggs of San Francisco, Ca. To note, the status of the domain name is currently “OK”, which often means the domain is unlocked and potentially transferring.

UniversalThread.com has been acquired for a currently unknown client of Marksmen. The domain was owned by DMIB Inc. prior and has been registered since July 1997.

Budtree Corp has acquired its exact match .com domain name at domain name aftermarket service Afternic, acquiring Budtree.com. The domain was owned by HugeDomains prior and had an offering price of $2,495.

Helen Of Troy has acquired the generic domain name CurlBar.com but was not likely acquired for the weightlifting equipment, because the company mainly offers personal care products and home goods relating items for its many brands like OXO, Vicks, Braun, Honeywell, Revlon and PUR to mention a few. This will likely be something related to hair is my guess.

WDINCO has sold 9040.com into the Chinese market, which sold on NameJet for $23,210. WDINCO also sold VRVR.com on NameJet recently, that one sold for $40K.

Target Brands, Inc. registered the domain name hack GoAlert.me

NBA ? Several NBA team names were registered with the keyword “Gaming” after them. BullsGaming.com, CelticsGaming.com, GrizzliesGaming.com, HornetsGaming.com, KnicksGaming.com, LakersGaming.com, NetsGaming.com, NuggetsGaming.com, PacersGaming.com, PelicansGaming.com, PistonsGaming.com, RaptorsGaming.com, RocketsGaming.com, SixersGaming.com, TimberwovesGaming.com and TrailblazersGaming.com were all registered under generic whois data at CSC.

WitherHills.com has been acquired from HugeDomains by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The domain held an offering price of $2,995.

SmokeFreeFuture.com has been acquired from BuyDomains by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The domain has been registered since 2010.

A1 Publishing Ltd.  has acquired TrainTime.com out of GoDaddy’s NameFind domain portfolio.

Disney Enterprises, Inc. has registered Buzzaholic.com. The domain was registered before and offered for sale but was allowed to expire recently.

908.com has had some movement on it and may have been for sale by GlaxoSmithKline? They have owned the domain for many years, dating back to at least 2003. The domain switched whois records to domain name service Marksmen in early 2016 and stayed that way until 4/17/2017 when whois records changed back to GlaxoSmithKline yesterday. It could have been a failed deal or was being offered for sale by Marksmen but is now back with GSK.

Microsoft has sold Jellyfish.com. The domain has been registered since 1998 and owned by Microsoft since around 2008. The domain just transferred to GoDaddy under whois privacy protection and now displays a generic webpage hosted with HostGator with “Any questions? Email [email protected]”. I did some further digging and the domain was certainly acquired by a domain investor but I will keep who that is private.

  1. As always thanks for sharing domain movers.
For Budtree, do you think it was dropped by HD and acquired by someone and sold through Afternic or HD had it listed with Afternic through which it sold?

    1. A lot of HugeDomains inventory sell via Afternic and I think it’s because of Afternic DLS. I think it’s a vital service for all domain sellers to use.

  2. Great discoveries !!!

In my opinion ConnectedAuto.com and SelfDriving.com sales shows that “future tech” domains are today just “tech” domains.

    NBA…esports coming 🙂

  3. Why do you care to keep jellyfish.com info private, you have no issue giving out other random people’s info?

    1. Good point Ron! As far as I can tell, it’s (buyer of Jellyfish.com) one of the Booth brothers.
