Welcome to Domain Movers, where DotWeekly keeps track of corporate domain name transactions and reports the early findings to you. Many of these transactions include future brands, products, services, domain upgrades and more.
A special Thank You goes out to both DomainTools.com and DomainIQ.com. Without the tools and services they provide, I can’t do the research required to provide these articles to you! Both services are very kind and provide the tools to me, at no cost. I’m grateful to both!
Today is a very exciting list with millions of dollars of domain transactions and is stacked with premium domain names and domain assets that are very important to the owners.
InnVenture.com has been acquired by former Walgreens CEO Greg Wasson for a new venture. The domain was owned by Danny Sullivan prior and held a $5,000 buy now at Sedo, but that listing still remains. This domain fails the radio test for sure and it doesn’t appear they own inventure.com currently.
Kohl.com sold on NameJet for $144,500 as reported by NameBio.com and I would be silly not to question if Kohl’s Illinois, Inc. were involved in the bidding. The domain is a fairly important typo for the company to own and does get some web traffic, but not a ton based on Alexa data showing the domain in the 9 million rank range. For an example of this typo, SummerFest.com, which Kohl’s is a sponsor, the Kohl’s logo on the site is linked to: http://kohl.com/kohlscares and is one of the top providers of traffic to Kohl.com. That is just one example that the typos do happen.
SeedPlus.com, which is the home for Jungle Ventures early-stage investment arm recently raised $18M. The company acquired the EMD from Frank Schillings Name Administration Inc. on June 4, 2015 for $5,950. SeedPlus is listed on CrunchBase as being founded in May 2016.
Ofo.com has been sold for over US$1 million dollars (exact price was not announced) by Guta.com’s founder George Hong. This sale was mentioned on DnJournal.com and George also reached out to me directly. Ron Jackson’s article didn’t mention who the buyers were but I’m fairly certain it’s the “Uber for bikes” company that was formally named Beijing Bikelock Technology Co. but is now Ofo.
The bike sharing company which was founded in 2014 has some big time investments with over $580 Million from 3 rounds of funding according to Crunchbase. They are using ofo.so, so the $1M+ is really peanuts to them and a premium domain upgrade! The Chinese in general love short domain names and those deeply include .com!
CelebritySummit.com has been acquired by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The domain was offered for sale but I didn’t see a listing price.
CPA Australia Ltd. which uses the domain name CPAAustralia.com.au has acquired the matching .com domain name CPAAustralia.com. This is a wise move as I often get emails on my domain names that happen to be intended for .com.au domains but people forget the .au after the .com, which also reflects into lost website visitors.
FusionNow.com which I mentioned earlier about being acquired, was likely purchased by Univision, as the domain has now been set to relating name servers. The domain was acquired via Afternic.
Commonwealth Bank Of Australia has done a big domain purchase and acquired CBA.com! This was likely a very solid domain name sale well into the six figure range (if not more) and a great fit for the bank. The company currently uses the domain name CommBank.com.au so a very strong domain upgrade. The company had revenue of $24.58 billion (AUD) in 2016 to note.
SoundTheAlarm.com has been acquired by the American National Red Cross. The Red Cross owns a little over 400 domain names and this recent purchase is slated for an upcoming fire safety effort that is taking place September 30 – October 15, 2017 whwher volunteers will install 100,000 free smoke alarms in high risk neighborhoods nationwide. Currently, you can visit: http://www.redcross.org/sound-the-alarm to find out more and likely soon at SoundTheAlarm.com!
NATURMANIA INC. has acquired ByNature.com out of GoDaddy’s NameFind portfolio for an undisclosed amount. The domain is already resolving to the new website.
Mission Hope of Alpharetta, Georgia has acquired the premium 2 letter domain name MH.org. According to whois history records, the domain name was owned by MHI Global prior. Mission Hope was formally Rivers Of The World. Most 2 letter .org domains hold an $xx,xxx value.
Blood Water Mission, who uses BloodWater.org, has acquired BloodWater.com in what I would call a “cover purchase”. Since .com is so common nature, people will often type .com instead of .org or any other extension. This is important for web traffic and email communication.
Marksmen assisted in acquiring two domain names for currently unknown clients. Those were Amersand.org and InSupport.com
CFA.net has been acquired by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains client. The transaction was handled at Afternic. CSC also acquired RaConnect.com for a currently unknown client, also via Afternic.
Colors Lab did a domain name upgrade and acquired ColorsLab.com. They are currently using the .net. From what I can tell, they got a pretty fair deal as the domain held an offering price of just $1,799.
National Cattlemen’s Beef Association has acquired its acronym, NCBA.org, a domain name that has been registered since 1995. The association also owns and uses the generic term, Beef.org and owns a little over 200 domain names in total. The transaction took place at Afternic.
There were many more movers but I try not to make these lists to long, so this is simply a sample of the corporate movements from yesterday!
