Company Domain Movers From Live Nation, Dole & More

Welcome to the latest round of company domain movers from large companies in the series that I call DotWeekly Discoveries. Huge list today with a lot of different domains, so I hope you enjoy and lets get to the action.

Research In Motion Limited

Registered the domain names BlackberryGuardian.com .net . RIM owns almost 10,000 domain names.

At the BlackBerry Security Summit, BlackBerry announced BlackBerry Guardian. This new Guardian will “automatically check all Android apps that customers install on their BlackBerry
smartphones.” This new service will includes apps from the Amazon Appstore and apps installed from other sources such as direct installs through the browser or downloads.

The domain names were registered the same day as the announcement.

In other news, the domain name GadgetGuardian.com very likely sold via Sedo, to an unknown buyer at this time but could be RIM.

Dole Packaged Foods, LLC

Registered the domain name DolePackaged.com . I was a little surprised they didn’t own it already.

Dole Packaged Foods LLC, a subsidiary of Dole International Holdings, is a leader in sourcing, processing, distributing and marketing fruit products and healthy snacks throughout the
world. Dole markets a full line of canned, jarred, cup, frozen and dried fruit products and is an innovator in new forms of packaging and processing fruit.

They own about 100 domain names and all of the domains owned hold the “dole” brand name in it, except a couple. FruitTheWayYouLikeIt.com, SunshineTimesSignUp.com, EatingUreway.com and 10
domains relating to MolliCoolz.com (appears to be a business name) are the only domains owned without Dole in it.

DNStination Inc. (MarkMonitor)

Likely on behalf of a client, registered the domain name StrongerTogetherDC.org . No other TLD’s were or are registered at this time (which is a mistake, as the .com will almost always get
some traffic depending on how the domain is used).

The20s.com was also purchased for a client from a “Matt Croot”. The domains was owned for a fairly long time by “Marketing Man Inc.” but expired 7/10/2013, likely went through NameJet with
no interest and was dropped from the registry. Once dropped, the domain appears to have been grabbed via a SnapNames backorder or “tasted” on 9/28/2013. The domain redropped between 10/1
and 10/4 2013 and was registered this time at GoDaddy by Matt.

Daniel J. Edelman, Inc.

UpAndAway.org a domain which appears to have been acquired on or about 9/28/2011 and a campaign run for the CDC that launched Dec 11, 2011.

They appear to have changed hosting for some reason, but I also found it interesting they used a PR firm and not a marketing company for the campaign. Edelman is shown as the owner in
whois and not the CDC, which also likely “paid for” the domain.

Edelman is the world’s largest public relations firm, with more than 5000 employees in 65 cities, as well as affiliates in more than 35 cities.

Microsoft

Used the powers of DNStination Inc. to acquire the domain name One-Drive.com on or about 1/31/2014 . One-Drive.com appears to have been owned by a Great Britain driving school prior.

OneDrive is online storage from Microsoft and the One-Drive.com domain does a “Bing search” for one-drive, similar to what they do with a lot of their domains.

Microsoft does own OneDrive.com, which they forward to the sub-domain: onedrive.live.com . OneDrive.com has some interesting movements via whois from FusionOne as the owner, to Synchronoss
Technologies Inc. (cloud storage). Between 08/27/2013 And 8/20/2013 whois records show the domain being transferred OUT of CSC Corporate domains to Dynadot. Upon arriving at Dynadot, the domian went into
privacy protection and really interesting, name server to Bodis.com (a domain parking service) . Still under privacy at Dynadot, the domains name servers update to akam.net hosting on
1/23/2014 and a 1/27/2014 whois is updated to show Microsoft as the owners. By 1/31/2014, OneDrive.com is transferred to the domain registrar MarkMonitor.

I would bet the domain was acuired at that 8/20/13 mark BY MarkMonitor and the whole Dynadot/Bodis part was a way to hide the domain…

Microsoft also registered the domain name Morfication.com and Morficatoin.net .

N.V. Nutricia

Registered the domain name EarlyLifeNutrition.org to go along with the EarlyLifeNutrition.com they registered on 4/2/2013.

INA Acquisition Corp.

Registered the domain name ManufacturedTech.com . INA Acquisition Corp appears to be connected to Aegion Corp. in some way.

Aegion Corporation is the parent company for Insituform, Bayou, Brinderson, Corrpro, CRTS, Fibrwrap, Fyfe and United Pipeline Systems. Aegion’s companies are global leaders in
infrastructure protection and provide proprietary technologies and services for the corrosion protection of industrial pipelines and for rehabilitating and strengthening sewer, water,
energy and mining piping systems, buildings, bridges and tunnels and waterfront structures.

Nintendo of America Inc.

Registered the domain name WiiKeyU.com . Several reports about WiiKey U surfaced aroun May 2013 and again in May 2014. Wiikey U is an Optical Disk Drive Emulator

The domain name was registered before, but expired on 4/30/2014 and was released from the registry.

Berol Corporation

Registered the domain name RMSBatteryReplacement.com . These type of domain registartion often relate to a “recall”. Berol Corp appears to be related to Newell Rubbermaid Newellco.com in
some way.

Newell also just released that they are acquiring Contigo and Avex beverage container brands, which is the first significant acquisition since 2008.

LF, LLC (Lowes.com)

Registered the domain name Eco-Orchard.com? ArtWired, Inc. is shown as the owner of EcoOrchard.com, which appears that they acquired on or about 9/4/2012.

Artwire is a design and marketing company, so there could be connection.

Live Nation

Who purchased the domain name MakeSomeNoise.com for $40,000 from Mike Mann, also purchased BringTheNoise.com for $3,000 via Sedo and also appears to have acquired Guyo.com for an
undisclosed sum. A “Sara Zambreno” was the past owner according to whois records and she held a @maverick.com email address. The email address changed in whois to [email protected] on or
about 7/10/2014 which is interesting. The domain has now transferred from EasyDNS.com domain registrar to CSC Corporate Domains Inc. “normally” a domain name can not transfer ownership
with a registrant email change for 60 days… but it did because as of 7/29/2014 the domain transferred registrars and to Live Nation Entertainment, Inc.

I have reached out to Sara for comment and will let you know if I hear back.

WP Company LLC

IsHillaryRunning.com a domain name that was registered on 5/28/2014 at GoDaddy.com under privacy protection, has transferred to the domain registrar CSC Corporate domains. The Washington
Post, appears to behind the registration, as they are now displayed as the owners of the domain. Did they register the domain at GoDaddy is the question..

Cox Media Group, Inc.

Was the buyer of the domain name Wjax.com which sold at Sedo recently for $3,140

Home Box Office, Inc.

Registered two domain names and both were related. ValorConcert.com and ConcertForValor.com

CBS Studios Inc.

Registered the domain names BehindTheFix.com which is being used with Showtime and the Ray Donovan behind the fix show.  PlayMePoker.com was also registered.

Hexagon AB (Hexagon.com)

Very likely acquired the domain name DoesItFit.com, likely on or about 5/8/2013.

Hexagon is focused on precision measuring technologies and is divided into three business areas: Geospatial Measuring (Surveying and GPS), Industrial Metrology (Hexagon Metrology) and
Technologies. The company markets its products and services under more than 35 different brands worldwide.

General Mills

Registered the domain name GetCheeseBlasted.com

Likely sold domains

GettingInto.com

P.S. I had more domains but didn’t want this list getting to long so I saved some for a future article. Hopefully you enjoyed it and if you did, let me know by posting a comment as to why you liked it or didn’t like it. Your feedback helps me provide interesting data that nobody else provides! I guess I could just write normal crap that everybody and there brother writes about… NOT

  1. Actually Jamie another thought occurred to me about monetizing your research along the lines of what Mike Mann has done identifying trademark applications. If a domain investor holds a name similar to a trademark applicant, there might be a way to connect the two and earn a brokerage commission. I guess this would have to be done in a timely manner as after approval approaching a trademark holder could result in a UDRP filing. Regardless, knowing there is a trademark on the name might be a motive to remove that name from any parking platform.
